I lost my wallet a few days back and I went to CIMB Bank to replace my ATM-slash-debit card. The process is quite easy if you know what to do. I was being quite a bitch with the counter lady because I missed on a few steps. Sorry.
First, call your bank's service centre to cancel your card. Do this no matter what. Do not risk anything. CIMB customer service number as of March 2012 is 1300880900.
Second thing to do is to keep in mind where you first made your ATM card. Your card has some sort of number unique to the place you first applied for it. They'll call the place to get that number.
The most important thing to have is your replacement MyKad, or the temporary one as well as these documents:
The things you need are
TWO of these five supporting documents
- Passport
- Birth certificate
- A letter of validation from your learning institution
- Driving license
- Your matrics card/student ID
(I'm not quite sure whats the procedure for those who have their actual MyKad with them, I think you still need to bring these supporting documents)
You just have to bring them. The bank itself will have a photocopy machine. If they don't, maybe you should consider changing banks.
They'll ask you to fill up a form and basically thats it.
The process is not too lengthy, depending on how quick they can get your number from the originating bank. Of course you have to wait for the other people who were there first. Try going to the branches on the outskirts of town. Its usually faster.
So yeah, I hope this post saves someone from any trouble. Sorry you lost your bank card. Thanks for reading :)
