Top 5 Reasons Why I Won't Buy Myself a Blackberry Anytime Soon

Well, I have to admit the new Curve looks very tempting. I like its form factor. Really cute, and the price is not bad as well. However, there are just certain things about the Blackberry, any Blackberry, that just makes me think twice about getting one for myself. Here are the top 5 reasons.

5. Its not a touch-screen. I do heaps of things with my Galaxy Tab, that includes making it a Gameboy Advance Emulator. I just don't see how that would work on a Qwerty-based device. At least with the Tab, the buttons can be more freely scattered on the screen. Besides, I often use my Tab for reading purposes so the screen isn't doing me any favours in that department.

4. Blackberry Messenger. Of course, this would be the main point of buying a Blackberry in the first place for most people. I just think its a normal messenger. It keeps the Blackberry bunch in one sector of society. Sure.  Its nice to be unique with your pin and all but I would rather be on an app that transcends all platforms, like Viber (you can make calls with this one) or Tango, or even WhatsApp which is available in all platforms, Symbian included. All you need is a data plan, or wi-fi. That's available everywhere now. I don't know, maybe I just don't support exclusivity so much.

3. Cuatomizations. The home screen is static and quite limited. I want something that shows everything in one area, or at least give me a chance to do so. With my Tab, my homescreen is my one stop for everything. My timetable, calendar, newsfeed, e-mail.. Everything. I can't even remember the last time I opened the menu. I know it makes sense for a Qwerty device to not have this kind of accessibility, that's why it makes sense for me to not want it.

2. The hardware is just mediocre. The Blackberry was never intended to be an all-rounder. Besides, there's a lack of co-operation between the hardware and the operating system so you can't really alter pictures so much or have an enhanced camera with a decent filter app. You want a nice camera or nice speakers, go get a DSLR and an MP3 player. I can't do that. I often just have money for one device so that's why I try to get the most out of my device's hardware.

1. I guess what bothers me most about the Blackberry is that you don't have that much options when it comes to games. I don't spend much time playing games on my Android but when I do, I need it to be fun. You can only do so much with a screen so small and a lack of talent investing their time to design games for the Blackberry.

If you can look past these 5 reasons, then go ahead and get a Blackberry. The tactile keyboard is superb, the operating system is smooth, and to be connected with the world is just so simple with the device. They update it regularly and that's a total plus.

Do note that this is a list of why I won't buy a Blackberry for myself. If anyone wants to buy me one, I'm open to that possibility :D

There's a high chance of me getting one maybe after my student days for work because I think they're designed to cater for this class in society anyway. Not much fuss in having a Blackberry, but I will still own an Android device to satisfy the gadgeteer in me.
